Power supplies

What are Power Supplies?

AC power supplies - a device that converts alternating current (AC) from an electrical outlet into direct current (DC) of the appropriate voltage needed to power a variety of electronic devices. They are commonly used to power computer equipment, routers, mobile devices, as well as other electronic devices. AC power supplies can have different output voltages, wattages and output types, making them a versatile solution for a variety of applications.

What are the types of mains power supply?

  1. Lower power supplies (< 25W) - These power supplies are ideal for powering smaller devices such as small electronics or small home automation systems. They are compact and energy efficient, making them the right choice for simple applications.
  1. Medium power supplies (25W - 100W) - designed to power larger devices such as routers, access points or larger automation systems. They offer more power to power more demanding devices.
  1. High power supplies (> 100W) - used to supply power to the most energy-intensive equipment, such as industrial equipment, professional monitoring systems or complex network installations. They provide a stable and reliable power supply even under heavy loads.
  1. USB chargers and adapters - state-of-the-art power supplies with USB-C and USB-A ports to quickly charge mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and other gadgets. Some models feature GaN technology, which allows for a compact design while maintaining high power output.

How do I choose the right mains adapter?

  1. Power Supply: Determine how much power your device needs and which plug you require. For smaller devices, a < 25W power supply is sufficient, e.g. Extralink 24V 24W. For the most demanding devices, such as professional networking equipment, a power supply with > 100W will be suitable, e.g. Extralink 48V 144W
  1. Output voltage: Check the voltage required by your device. Mains power supplies offer different output voltages, such as 24V or 48V. Choose the right model that is compatible with your equipment.
  1. Additional functions and USB ports: If you need a power supply to charge your mobile devices, consider models with USB-C and USB-A ports that offer fast charging. Extralink Smart Life Fast Charger 45W GaN is an excellent example of a charger with modern technology that allows for fast and efficient charging.
  1. Portability and international compatibility: If you are travelling, a power supply with multiple adapters for different sockets, such as a Extralink Smart Life Adapter for travellers, will be the ideal choice. It ensures compatibility with various power supply standards around the world.
