Fans

What is a rack fan?

Server rack fans are key components for maintaining an optimal temperature inside server racks. Rack cabinets store and protect IT equipment such as servers, switches and other network equipment that generate a lot of heat during operation. Fans play a key role in cooling these devices, preventing overheating and ensuring their long life and reliable operation.

Fan types for server racks

  • Fans with thermostat - equipped with a thermostat that automatically regulates the fan speed depending on the temperature inside the enclosure. This is ideal for users who want to provide energy-efficient cooling without the need for manual control.
  • Fans for wall cabinets - designed specifically for wall-mounted cabinets, which typically have a smaller internal space and require compact cooling solutions.
  • Fans for standing cabinets - designed for larger standing cabinets, which typically store more heat-generating equipment and require a more efficient cooling system.
  • Fans with cable for thermostat - equipped with a cable for connecting an external thermostat, which allows even more precise control of the temperature inside the enclosure.
  • Fans with different numbers of units - available with one, two or four fans, allowing the cooling power to be adapted to the specific needs of the enclosure and the amount of heat generated.

How do I choose the right rack fan?

  1. Cabinet type: If you have a wall-mounted cabinet, look out for compact fans that fit into smaller spaces. For larger standing cabinets, you will need a more efficient cooling system, such as a Extralink cooling unitwhich provides effective cooling in larger installations.
  1. Number of fans: Depending on the amount of equipment and heat generated, choose the appropriate number of fans. For example, for a medium sized enclosure, two fans, as per the Extralink fan, may be sufficient. In more demanding environments, consider a panel with four fans for more cooling power.
  1. Temperature control: If you want the cooling system to automatically adjust to temperature changes, choose a fan with a thermostat. You can also opt for a fan with a cable for the thermostat, like a Extralink fan with cableto integrate it into an existing temperature management system.
  1. Space and assembly: Make sure the fan you choose is suitable for the size of the cabinet and easy to install. For cabinets with limited space, fans with a compact design will be the best choice.
