Router housings

What are router enclosures?

Router housings play a key role in protecting network equipment from mechanical damage, weather conditions and unauthorised access. The right housing not only protects the device, but also enhances the aesthetics of the installation and extends the life of the equipment. Depending on the installation location and specific use, different types of enclosures are available.

Different types of housing for routers

  • External enclosures - are designed to protect routers installed outdoors. They are characterised by high resistance to weather conditions such as rain, snow or UV radiation. They are ideal for installation in gardens, on the roofs of buildings or on facades where routers need to be protected from the external environment.
  • Industrial enclosures - are made of durable materials such as stainless steel or aluminium, ensuring that the router is protected in harsh environments such as production halls or warehouses. These enclosures are resistant to dust, moisture and mechanical damage, making them an ideal choice for industrial applications.
  • Internal enclosures - are designed for home and office use. In addition to their basic protective function, they often offer an aesthetically pleasing design that can be easily matched to the interior décor. In addition, many internal enclosures provide better air circulation, which helps to keep the router at its optimum operating temperature.

How do I choose the right enclosure for my router?

  1. Installation environment: If the router is to be installed outdoors, it is necessary to choose an outdoor enclosure to protect it from the weather.
  1. Material and durability: In industrial environments where routers may be exposed to dust and moisture, it is advisable to choose an industrial enclosure made of robust materials. Such enclosures will provide reliable protection even in the most demanding conditions.
  1. Aesthetics and additional features: For indoor installations, in addition to protection, the aesthetics of the enclosure are worth considering. Many indoor enclosures also offer additional features, such as better ventilation or the ability to hide cables, which translates into a neater appearance for the entire installation.
